Prineville man charged with firing rifle toward car

A Prineville man was arrested Friday afternoon, accused of firing his rifle toward a car with two women inside during a dispute at his home. They thought it struck the car, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said, but it actually hit the ground in front of the car, spraying it with gravel.

Deputies were dispatched around 1:50 p.m. on a menacing report at 6247 SE Mark Road, about five miles southeast of Prineville, said sheriff’s Sgt. Travis Jurgens.

While heading to the house, deputies were told that Rease Endicott, 70, had pointed a gun at the woman who called and fired a single round, reportedly hitting her car.

Two 38-year-old Prineville women in the car called 911 as they fled and met deputies elsewhere to tell them what happened.

Deputies went to the home and interviewed Endicott, he said. They determined the driver of the car had driven the other woman to the home, resulting in a dispute over the passenger being on the property.

Jurgens said Endicott then went inside, grabbed a rifle, came out and pointed it toward the women’s car, firing a single round that struck the ground and sprayed the car with gravel. Nobody was hurt, he added.

Endicott was taken into custody without incident and booked into the county jail on charges of menacing with a firearm and reckless endangering, Jurgens said. But he was later released after posting 10 percent of his $10,000 bail.
