Three Portlanders arrested in Bend drug bust
Three Portland residents were arrested recently on charges they traveled to Bend to sell heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine, and heroin was found in a raid on their hotel room, Central Oregon drug agents said Wednesday.
Detectives with the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team, assisted by Bend police, arrested Leonard Lee Taylor, 46, around 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 at the intersection of NE Third Street and DeKalb Avenue, said Lt. Ken Mannix. Taylor had been the subject of an investigation that revealed he traveled to Bend from Portland with the intent of selling drugs, he said.
Less than an hour later, detectives contacted Torrance Hunter, 38, and Karen Marie Chambliss, 23, at the motel room they shared with Taylor. They were arrested on various drug charges, Mannix said, adding that Chambliss had about 16 grams of cocaine, an ounce of heroin and a small amount of meth on her person at the time.
Detectives then applied for and later executed a search warrant for the motel room, turning up another 17.6 grams of heroin, along with scales, packaging material and other evidence of methamphetamine manufacturing and sales, Mannix said.
All three people were lodged at the Deschutes County Jail on various drug possession, delivery and manufacture charges, along with conspiracy. Taylor and Chambliss remained in jail Wednesday on out-of-county warrants, and Taylor also is charged with a parole violation. Hunter was released April 24 th after posting 10 percent of his $25,000 bail, a jail officer said.
