Bend brothers arrested; heroin, meth, pills seized

Two Bend brothers believed to be trafficking in methamphetamine and heroin were pulled over west of Bend in the early-morning hours a week ago as they drove home from Portland. They were arrested when drug detectives searched their pickup and found heroin, methamphetamine, prescription drugs and a small amount of marijuana, authorities said Thursday.

Around 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a white 2007 Dodge pickup near the intersection of Highway 20W and the Old Bend-Redmond Highway with Tyler Keinonen, 30, at the wheel. He was accompanied by his brother, Brock Keinonen, 25, as they were returning from the Portland area, said Lt. Ken Mannix of the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team.

The traffic stop resulted from an ongoing investigation by CODE Team detectives over several months that identified the two men as being involved in heroin and meth trafficking throughout Deschutes County, Mannix said.

Based on the results of that investigation, detectives executed a search warrant on the pickup and found about 12 grams of heroin, 6 grams of meth, prescription medication, a small amount of marijuana, scales, packaging material, paraphernalia and other evidence of drug sales and manufacturing, the lieutenant said.

Other items seized included a handgun, which as felons the brothers are not allowed to possess.

Both men were lodged in the Deschutes County Jail, and Brock Keinonen remains there a week later on various drug possession, delivery and manufacture charges, as well as felon in possession of firearm and an out-of-county warrant. Tyler Keinonen posted 10 percent of his $30,000 bail and was released, a jail officer said.
