OSP: Wash. man cited going 130 mph on Hwy. 97

A Washington state man who wanted to see what his new motorcycle would do found out just that — it hit 130 mph, and that got him a costly ticket from an Oregon State Police trooper on Hwy. 97 south of La Pine Monday afternoon.

Around 2:40 p.m., OSP Senior Trooper Don Newcomb was patrolling Highway 97 near milepost 177 when he saw a northbound Ducati motorcycle, driven by Gregory Zaser, 61, of the wealthy Lake Washington enclave of Medina, near Seattle.

Newcomb says he clocked Zaser’s motorcycle at 130 miles per hour on radar.

Newecomb says Zaser told him he just bought the motorcycle and wanted to see what it would do.

Zaser was cited for Violation of the Basic Speed Rule — 130 miles per hour, or more than twice the 55 mph speed limit — and for careless driving.

The ticket for going 130 mph in a 55 mph zone is $1,103 — that’s the automatic fine for going more than 100 mph in Oregon.

OSP Lt. Steve Mitchell says Zaser could also have his license suspended.
