A bill honoring the lifelong achievements of former Oregon House Speaker Lynn Lundquist passed the House on a unanimous vote Wednesday.

Carried and sponsored by Rep. Mike McLane (R-Powell Butte), House Concurrent Resolution 32 recognizes Lundquist and his legacy of public service. Lundquist died in early April at the age of 78.

From 1995 to 2001, Lundquist served in the Oregon House of Representatives and served as Speaker in 1997.

“He was never unavailable to those who were in need. He was never without a smile as he helped those in need,” Rep. McLane said. “We will never forget this leadership to Oregon when we were in need.”

Lundquist served in many roles over the years. His involvement in education and children’s issues included stints as a board member for the Newberg School District, Special Olympics Oregon, CareOregon and the Children’s Institute and as a member of the American Leadership Council and a professor of economics at George Fox University.

Agricultural issues were also important to Lundquist. He served as state president of the Oregon Future Farmers of America, president of the Oregon Cattleman’s Association, was a 4-H leader, the first president of the Oregon Business Association and a member of the State Board of Agriculture.

Aside from his stint in the Legislature, Lundquist also served as a member of the Yamhill County Budget Committee and the Crook County Board of Commissioners.
