Free Fishing Weekend events planned

KTVZ

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife invites Oregonians to fish for free during Free Fishing Weekend, June 1-2.

To help beginning anglers get started, free fishing events around the region can help parents introduce their children to the joy of fishing. Events are typically geared towards kids and many provide loaner rods and reels as well as volunteers to help kids learn how to fish.

The following events are taking place throughout central and southeast Oregon. All events are on Saturday, June 1.

Deschutes County

Caldera Springs, 10 a.m. to noon. More information: George Gehlert (541) 593-6141.

Klamath County

Lake of the Woods, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information: George Gregory (541) 821-2407.

Harney County

Burns Gravel Pond, 7 a.m. to noon. More information: Shannon Hurn (541) 573-3385.

During Free Fishing Weekend, fishing licenses and tags are not required, although all other regulations apply including bag limit and size restrictions.
