Erratic, naked man struck on Hwy. 20 near Eddyville

A reportedly naked pedestrian, acting erratically along Highway 20 near Eddyville, threw himself against a vehicle and was struck by a travel trailer as it departed, suffering serious injuries, Oregon State Police said.

On Sunday around 7:25 p.m., OSP and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office got a report of an erratically acting naked man in the roadway along Highway 20 near milepost 29, troopers said.

Shortly after the first report, another call was received that the naked man was involved in a collision with a vehicle.

When medics and a sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene, the man, identified as Amos McLean, 38, of Eddyville, had been critically injured and transported by PacWest ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis for treatment.

McLean is reportedly in critical condition, troopers said, and any factors of the reason for his behavior is not known.

Witness information indicated McLean was moving around naked in the center of the highway, waving branches and shouting, OSP reported.

He then entered a neighbor’s vehicle, removed a box of mail and moved to the center of the westbound lane, where he sat down.

As vehicles approached and stopped, McLean reportedly got up and approached a Ford F250 pickup pulling a travel trailer driven by Ron Simpson, 57, of Salem. Witnesses said he then attacked the side of the pickup, throwing his body against it and punching the side.

As Simpson pulled forward and away from the erratically acting man, the travel trailer collided wit McLean, knocking him to the pavement.

OSP also was assisted at the scene by Toledo Fire & Rescue and ODOT. The highway was blocked for an hour.
