New at High Desert Museum: Art of the West

KTVZ

The High Desert Museum’s Art of the West show opened to the public Saturday . The annual, juried exhibition features 21 paintings from local and regional artists.

This year, there’s also decorative arts, with furniture and sculptures.

All the art is up for sale in a silent auction. The money raised goes back into the museum’s educational programs.

Vice President of Programs Dana Whitelaw says some of the scene’s depicted might be familiar.

“So there are landscapes from Central Oregon, from other parts of the West — rivers, mountains, that are definitely recognizable,” she said. “And that’s always a wonderful way for visitors to connect to the landscape, is through an artist interpretation, and an artist’s inspiration of where we live.”

You can see the exhibition through August 17th – the High Desert Rendezvous, the museum’s yearly fund-raising gala.
