Style, Lifestyle and Plenty of Golf
In the summer of 2010, Mia and Andrew Neeb moved from an older neighborhood in northwest Bend into the community of Tetherow. Drawn to the golf community on the westside of Bend for the gorgeous Northwest lodge style house they discovered there, the top notch David Kidd golf course, and most of all, the incredible location, the Neebs immediately felt right at home. “There were only a few homes in Tetherow at that time, but once we were introduced to the other homeowners, we were instantly connected and have been friends ever since,” says Mia Neeb. “Tetherow has really grown since we moved in and we love the community and diverse neighborhood with people of all different ages and backgrounds.”
The Neebs themselves are a young family, parents to a two-year-old daughter, Soleil, and another baby on the way this month. Andrew Neeb is an avid golfer, and the opportunity to live on a golf course for the first time in his life was instantly appealing. While Mia considers herself a novice on the greens, she has found the course and community to be beyond friendly. “From the perspective of a beginner golfer, even though the course is challenging, I don’t get intimidated when playing with friends. The golf events and tournaments are first class and there are golf clinics offered during the week and weekends for golfers of all levels. There are so many members’ events that it is easy to make friends and find new golf companions.” The events, she has found, are family friendly and oftentimes childcare is provided. “Even with a toddler, I was able to practice my golf swing every day during the month of June last year!”
Mia and Andrew both love the Tetherow clubhouse amenities, too. “The clubhouse staff is extremely welcoming which makes it feel like a real community. Whether we’re dining in the restaurant or playing on the course they constantly exceed our expectations.”
Andrew is a physician practicing urology at Urology Specialists of Oregon, in Bend, and Mia works as a pediatric and neonatal dietician at St. Charles Medical Center. The couple first moved to Bend in 2006 from Little Rock, Arkansas, where Andrew was completing his medical training. “We knew we were destined to be in the Pacific Northwest,” says Mia. The Neebs love to ski as well as golf, and find that Bend, particularly Tetherow, is the perfect hub for their outdoor pursuits. “Tetherow was really an easy choice and we didn’t spend much time looking at other golf course communities,” explains Mia. “We love being minutes from downtown and 25 minutes to Mount Bachelor and the Cascade Lakes.” Mia and Andrew also share a passion for live music, making proximity to the Les Schwab Amphitheatre, on the Deschutes River, a bonus.
The Neebs purchased the first home built in Tetherow, from the original builders.
“The house is a Northwest lodge style home with unique metal work and stone on the exterior and contemporary finishes on the interior,” says Mia. “The layout of the home is open and inviting and perfect for entertaining and outdoor living.” The views and surrounding high desert and forested landscape are highly appealing, too. After work, the family often golfs five to nine holes, with Soleil enjoying the course from a stroller. “The sunsets are the best in town, and my daughter and husband love to go on owl hunts at night.”
Moving to Tetherow, says Mia, “was mostly about location, location, location,” and the family has never looked back. “From our house, everything is at our fingertips including access to mountain bike trails, hiking or trail running, and, of course, golf.”
