Bend pastor still in critical condition after crash

A 61-year-old Bend pastor remained in critical condition Saturday at St. Charles-Bend, two days after his motorcycle and a car collided at a northeast Bend intersection, authorities said.

The call came in around 5:45 p.m. Thursday of the crash at the corner of Bear Creek Road and Quail Run Place, just east of 27th Street, said police Cpl. Adam Junke.

On Friday night, police Sgt. Tom Pine identified the two involved as Daniel James Dillard, 61, who was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle, and Douglas Franklin McDonald, 23, also of Bend, who was driving a Ford Mustang.

A preliminary investigation indicated Dillard was heading west and McDonald was turning north (left) onto Quail Run when the two vehicles collided, Junke said.

McDonald apparently was unhurt in the crash, Pine said, adding that neither speed nor intoxicants appeared to be factors in the collision.

No charges or citations have been issued, as the investigation continues, he said.
