Bend man arrested in downtown stabbing attempt

A 22-year-old Bend man was booked into the Deschutes County Jail early Saturday, accused of an assault nearly 24 hours earlier that left another man with a six-inch superficial stab wound to his abdomen, police said.

Police responded around 2:30 a.m. Friday to the report of a stabbing in the area of NW Oregon Avenue and Brooked Street, said Lt. Brian Kindel.

Arriving officers found Thane Guymon, 29, with the superficial stab wound, he said.

Officers learned from Guymon and witnesses that Guymon was confronted by what they described as three “transient-looking” individuals, two males and a female, who were verbally aggressive and followed him as he walked west on Oregon toward Brooks Avenue, Kindel said.

One of the men threatened to strike Guymon with his skateboard, those on scene said, so Guymon grabbed the skateboard and threw it away from them.

The man, later identified as Diondre Allen Dolbin, 22, then pulled a knife from his pocket and tried to stab Guymon in the abdomen, Kindel said. Guymon was able to partially deflect the knife strike, resulting in the long superficial wound.

Guymon then struck Dolbin on the face, Kindel said, and Dolbin then left the area with the other man and woman.

Police contacted Dolbin around 11 p.m. Friday and arrested him on charges of second- and fourth-degree assault, first-degree attempted assault, first-degree menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.

Kindel said the knife used in the incident has been recovered. He also said Guymon and Dolbin did not know each other before the encounter.
