Becca’s Closet set to reopen, seeks volunteer

Becca’s Closet, the national nonprofit program that provides free formal attire to low-income high school students has a local chapter in Central Oregon, which is located in Bend’s Community Center. Becca’s Closet will be open again this fall and is seeking a volunteer to manage the program for the 2013 – 2014 school year.

Becca’s Closet will be open the week of September 23. Typically Becca’s Closet is open two weeks before and one week after local school dances. The hours are Saturdays 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Wednesdays 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays 2 – 5 p.m. Dresses and suits may be returned at Bend Community Center’s Administrative Offices Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“Becca’s Closet provides the youth in our community a chance to attend formals, homecoming, prom and other events, in which they otherwise may not have the confidence to attend,” said Linda Heatley, the executive director for Bend’s Community Center. “This program has made a tremendous difference in the lives of many young people throughout Central Oregon.”

Becca’s Closet is seeking someone who will be able to direct volunteers and manage the program for the 2013 – 2014 school year. For more information, please contact Bend’s Community Center at 541-312-2069.

About Becca’s Closet

Becca’s Closet is a national program that provides free formal attire to low-income high school students who otherwise would not be able to attend their prom, homecoming or other dances and event. The Central Oregon chapter of Becca’s Closet, which was founded in 2004 by teen Sara Persons, and is located in the basement of Bend’s Community Center. Donations are gladly accepted and the organization is always seeking teen and adult volunteers. To volunteer, contact Bend’s Community Center at 541-312-2069.
