C.O. Shriners’ run raises $7,000

KTVZ

The Central Oregon Shrine Club attracted 155 runners for its first annual Run for a Child 5K Run/Walk held on Sunday, August 11 th at Riverbend Park.

The all-morning event had a festive tone, set in part by Race Marshall Zachary Henneous, a Shriners child, who greeted each participant with a high five as they crossed the finish line.

Participants also enjoyed Shriners go-karts and clowns, a post-race barbeque, face painting, and a Shriners Hospital Screening Clinic. The event was well supported by the local community, with generous business and individual supporters helping defray event costs.

After expenses, the 2013 Run For a Child 5K netted $7,000 for Shriners Hospitals for Children®, which help families from our community, and around the world, overcome orthopedic limitations, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate conditions, without regard to the family’s or patient’s ability to pay.

Since Shriners Hospitals for Children® were founded in 1922, children have benefitted from Shiners’ life-saving and life-enhancing services.

Shriners Hospitals for Children® are specially designed to support the entire family as a child undergoes their specialty medical care, providing free rooms to families during a child’s treatment, so the family can support the child without added stress through the child’s rehabilitation.

In 2012, 117 children from Central Oregon (Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties) were patients at the Shriners Hospital for Children® in Portland.

The Central Oregon Shrine Club acknowledges the generous support of many Run for a Child sponsors, including: Les Schwab Tire Centers, American Family Insurance, Five Talent Software, Ace Hardware Stores Bend-La Pine, and our media sponsors, The Bulletin and Horizon Broadcasting Corporation.

Additional sponsors include The Johns-Hakala Wealth Management Group of RBC Wealth Management, Welcorp Public Safety Consulting, NW Brain & Spine, Thrivent Financial, Sagebrush Printing, Dutch Brothers, John Legg Construction, Rebound Physical Therapy, Dr Kruger Oral Surgery, Century Insurance, Dr Fuller Family Dentistry, Eberhards Dairy, Miller Lumber, Albertsons Bend/Redmond, Parr Lumber, SELCO Credit Union, Wilson Furniture, Big County RV, Dale & Kay Nelson, Bob & Dorothy Wills, John & Laura Pinckney, Tony & Renata Taylor, Whynot Ranch, Road ID, Thistlefish Design, Bend Kitty Lodge, Bi Mart Corporation, Cathie Dehler, Costco, Food 4 Less, Franz Bakery, BigFoot Beverages, McDonalds of Bend, Office Max, Print & Promotional Imaging, Rays Grocery, Shevlin Dental, Sportmans Warehouse, Rhonda Chesney, James Macnamara, and Road ID.
