KTVZ

Two prescribed burns totaling 250 acres are planned Thursday on the Deschutes National Forest.

Fire personnel will be conducting a 150-acre prescribed burn 5 miles west of Sisters, in the proximity of Cold Springs Campground and adjacent to State Highway 242 (Old McKenzie Highway) on the Sisters Ranger District.

The burn could take one to two days, and mop-up and patrol of the fire will occur over several days following ignitions.

Smoke impacts may occur on State Highway 242 and Forest Service Road 1012. Signs and flaggers will be used on State Highway 242 to manage traffic while there are smoke impacts. Residents in Black Butte Ranch and Tollgate and Crossroads subdivisions may see smoke during the prescribed burn.

On the Bend-Ft. Rock Ranger District, Forest Service fire personnel will do a 100-acre prescribed burn near Browns Mt., approximately 16 miles west of La Pine, near Crane Prairie. Smoke may be visible along the Cascade Lakes Highway near the burn, on Forest Road 42, and in the Crane Prairie and Wickiup Reservoir areas.

Ignition of the fire is anticipated to occur at noon and the burn is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Patrols and mop-up of the burn will occur for several days following the prescribed burn.
