Bend updates schedule for roundabout final striping

KTVZ

The updated schedule for roundabout closures in Bend is as follows:

–18th Street and Empire Avenue: Closed Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m.
Completion expected midday.

–Brookswood Boulevard and Powers Road: Afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 16
and all day Thursday, Oct. 17.

–Mt. Washington Drive and Simpson Avenue: Closed Friday, Oct. 18 and
Saturday, Oct. 19.

Striping work at the 18th Street and Empire Avenue roundabout has been underway
since Monday and will continue Wednesday morning. The intersection will close at
approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday. This is a multi-lane roundabout with multiple
markings and the preparation work for the striping has taken longer than anticipated.

Crews are expected to complete the work Wednesday afternoon and then move on
to the Brookswood Boulevard and Powers Road roundabout.

Electronic message boards will be placed in advance of the work to notify the public.

A detour route will be signed during the closures to direct traffic around the
intersections. Schedules may change due to weather conditions.

The project involves more than simple painting. Striping the roundabouts includes a
durable two-component pavement marking system which is pressed into a recessed
slot ground into the concrete surface. This type of striping bonds well, is very
resistant to snow plowing and has a four-year warranty.
