Sunriver ‘Marathon for Cause’ raises $21,000

Sunriver Resort presented a $21,000 donation to Susan G. Komen Oregon & SW Washington for proceeds raised at the Third Annual Sunriver Marathon for a Cause. This year’s event over Labor Day weekend drew over 1,200 runners and walkers from 30 states and six countries.

Since the Sunriver Marathon for a Cause was launched in 2011, the event has raised more than $50,000 for breast cancer awareness and prevention.

“This donation will ensure that thousands of men and women in Oregon and Southwest Washington are able access life-saving screening, treatment and other services they need,” said Thomas Bruner, CEO of Susan G. Komen, Oregon & SW Washington, “it has been our pleasure to partner with Sunriver Resort in the fight against breast cancer.”

Sunriver Resort is also grateful to event sponsors who contributed to the event’s success, including Bend Broadband, Bigfoot Beverages, Widmer Brothers Brewing, Nike, Bend Memorial Clinic, Central Oregon Pathology, Alpine Entertainment, Power 94, Mix 100.7, Absolute Vodka, Sunriver Country Store, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, Sunriver Resort, Crosswater and Caldera Springs Communities; as well as numerous in-kind donors.

Susan G. Komen Oregon & SW Washington helps fund breast cancer screening each year for uninsured and low income women in Oregon. In the past 20 years, Komen Oregon has invested almost $29 million throughout Oregon and SW Washington to fund breast-cancer research, screening, survivor support and advocacy.

The 4th annual Sunriver Marathon for a Cause will take place over Labor Day weekend August 30th and 31st, 2014 at Sunriver Resort. This premiere Central Oregon event, held on a USATF-certified course, includes multiple race options including a family 5K fun run/walk, a 10K run/walk and a children’s race, a half marathon run/walk, challenges races, and a Boston Qualifier marathon.
