Bend resident, 19, accused of shots into home

A 19-year-old Bend man appeared in court Friday, facing several charges in connection with several gunshots fired into a home east of town last Feb. 1 as its residents lay sleeping inside. A juvenile also has been charged in the case, which also involved vandalism to a pickup parked outside, authorities said.

Deschutes County Circuit Judge Alta Brady appointed Jacques DeKalb as defense attorney for Tyler Edward Noice, who is due back in court on Dec. 16 at 8:30 a.m.

Noice was arrested and booked into the Deschutes County Jail on Oct. 22 and released the next day after posting 10 percent of his $10,000 bail, a jail officer confirmed.

Noice was indicted this week on four counts each of recklessly endangering another and menacing, and single counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

A juvenile from Prineville also was arrested in connection with the case, according to Deschutes County sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Eggert, who said he could not divulge some details of the case due to the still-ongoing investigation.

However, Eggert said the shooting “wasn’t a random act,” and that “the victims were known to Mr. Noice.”

“There is no indication this was an attempted murder, or anything like that,” the sergeant said, adding that it did not stem from a domestic incident but that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crime.

The residents, who declined to talk on camera after Friday’s court appearance, said 12 shots were fired while four people slept in the home off Bunchgrass Place early the morning of Feb. 1, causing more than $7,000 worth of damage.

The walls in the second-story living room had numerous bullet holes, and a pickup in the driveway had three tires slashed. A key was used to write profanity on one side of the truck and the same on the other side, but with spray liner.

A small, dark-colored sedan was seen leaving the area before deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said at the time.

NewsChannel 21 tried to talk to Noice at his home Friday night, but his mother said no. A neighbor who didn’t want to be named said, “He’s a very nice young man and a very hard worker, and I’ve only heard good things about him.”

Although there’s no access to juvenile records, adult court records show Noice has no adult record before the arrest in the February 1 st incident.
