C.O. police plan holiday-week DUII enforcement
Law enforcement agencies from across Central Oregon are joining the state in an 11-day “high-visibility enforcement” campaign dedicated to DUII enforcement over the Thanksgiving holiday week, police said Tuesday.
Area agencies participating in the increased traffic enforcement include the Bend Police Department, Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Prineville Police Department, and Redmond Police Department.
Participating agencies will provide regular and overtime enforcement to reduce the
number of drugs/alcohol-related traffic incidents.
High-visibility enforcement, increasing the number of officers on the streets aggressively seeking out drunk drivers, is designed to deter people from driving after they have been drinking.
Thanksgiving week has become one of the most dangerous holiday periods for driving.
“Local agencies are dedicated to reducing the number of impaired drivers on the roads and highways this holiday season through this aggressive enforcement effort,” the Bend police release stated.
“We strongly encourage all citizens to drink responsibly and plan ahead on a safe way to get home,” it continued.
“Walking or biking impaired can be just as dangerous as drunk driving. Please designate a sober driver, take a taxi, call a friend or family member, or use public
transportation.”
