S. County assault leads to Tasering, arrest

A report of a possible assault and stabbing along Spring River Road south of Sunriver Tuesday morning led to the use of a Taser and the arrest of a 31-year-old man on several charges, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

County 911 dispatchers got a call around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on the incident along Spring River Road near Solar and Stellar drives, said Sgt. Vance Lawrence. Deputies responded, along with help from Sunriver police and Oregon State Police.

Deputies contacted Timothy Edwin Dort, who they said was making “alarming statements” heard by nearby witnesses and police. He claimed to have harmed his 35-year-old girlfriend, and made statements about harming himself, Lawrence said.

Dort was not cooperative with law enforcement instructions and commands and “exhibited threatening behavior toward law enforcement,” also trying to run away, Lawrence said.

After a brief chase, a Taser was deployed at Dort, which caused him to drop to the ground, where he was taken into custody.

The girlfriend was checked by medics at the scene and released. Lawrence said an assault occurred, but no stabbing. Dort also had caused significant damage to the woman’s car, he added.

Dort was taken to the St. Charles-Bend emergency room for treatment and to talk with a counselor. Dort had no significant injuries and was taken to the county jail, where he remained held without bail Wednesday on a probation violation charge, as well as new charges of first- and second-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree (domestic) assault, reckless endangering and resisting arrest.
