CXmas Party kicks off cyclocross weekend
The third annual CXmas Party at Bowen Sports Performance on Thursday will kick off a weekend of nationally recognized cyclocross racing in Bend, including the UCI-sanctioned Deschutes Brewery Cup races on Saturday and the finale of the Cross Crusade series on Sunday.
The fundraiser will feature a Q&A with professional cyclists, including Bend locals Ryan Trebon, Carl Decker and Adam Craig, a photography exhibit and silent auction. All proceeds help Oregon junior cyclists attend the US National Cyclocross Championships in Boulder, Colo., this January.
In addition to numerous donations for the silent auction from the local community, Deschutes Brewery is also supporting the CXmas Party.
“Deschutes Brewery does so much for the community at large, and they have always been supportive of cycling,” says Bart Bowen, who spearheads the annual fundraiser. “Their support of the CXmas Party means a lot. Even with this being our third year, I continue to be amazed by the generosity of the community.
“At our first CXmas Party in 2011, we talked about how it takes an entire community to raise the next generation of competitive cyclists, and obviously the community believes that, too. We appreciate the overwhelming support of our national vendors, local businesses and also the pro cyclists, who have been so gracious and willing to
help make this event successful.”
Last year’s CXmas Party raised over $2,500 which, combined with proceeds from the Future Cross cyclocross race in September, helped four juniors attend the US Cyclocross Nationals in Wisconsin last January.
“The Art of Photography” exhibit will feature the work of Mike Albright, Matthew Lasala, Rob Kerr, Brian Nelson and Whit Bazemore. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at Bowen Sports Performance, located at 225 NE Lafayette Avenue in Bend. Food and refreshments will be served, and there is a suggested minimum donation of $5 at the door.
