Frozen High Desert fills in the blank: ‘It’s so cold…’
On Saturday night, when temperatures plummeted to record territory far below zero, a fill-in-the-blank question: “It was so cold that…” brought a variety of responses from our NewsChannel 21 online friends.
“It’s so cold that I (saw) homeless kids sleeping inside Wal-Mart on the benches overnight,” was the most-liked comment, by Jennifer Falls, who thanked the manager for allowing that.
Wendy Barto Lowry said it was so cold, she and her daughter “blew some bubbles outside and got to watch them freeze and fall to the ground.”
“It was so cold that we chilled our Jell-O on the porch. Sort of the opposite of frying an egg in the summer,” said Deann Christine Kee Curtis.”
Robyn Elaine France said, “It was so cold my nostril hair froze the second I stepped outside.”
Kristal Cozine said it was so cold she was “having post-traumatic stress flashbacks of growing up on a cattle ranch in Montana, where this was ‘normal’ for us.
Robyn France “had to use my ice scraper on the inside of my vehicle while driving home because defrost was pointless!”
Debbie Brose said it was so cold, “my digital thermometer just threw up its little hands and gave up! It now says OF.1. … Last reading -22!” Ashley Christensen said her electric thermometer also said “off” after -22 in Plainview.
Jodi Mays said it was so cold working outside, “my eyes would water, then the water would immediately freeze to my eyelashes.” Donna Kern said in her case, “my tongue stuck to my teeth!”
Trisha Federick said, “It was SO cold that we threw a cup of hot water into the air outside and it turned to a white misty powder!!!”
