Fitness inspiration found in the gym and online

Working out isn’t easy, and finding the motivation to do it can be even harder.

IFBB Figure Pro, trainer and former NewsChannel 21 personality Victoria Adelus knows that. But her job is to give people the motivation and inspiration to be happy and healthy.

“It’s not a sprint — it’s a marathon,” Adelus said Wednesday. “I mean, you have to look at it in the overall big picture, and you have to work with your body.”

Adelus is constantly motivating people in the gym, but it’s through her social media sites that she’s motivating people around the world.

With more than 11,500 likes on her Facebook page. 929 subscribers on her YouTube channel. 2,061 followers on Twitter, and hundreds of subscribers on her website. It’s no secret Adelus is an inspiration on the World Wide Web.

“I do this not to be like, ‘Hey, look at me social media,” Adelus said. “I do this because it allows me to help other people.”

People like Kelli Cima.

“I started following Victoria on her (Facebook) page, and I just looked at that and I was like, ‘Why can’t that be me? Why can’t I do that?” Cima said.

Now with Adelus’ help, Cima is improving a body she once despised.

“I cannot tell you how good I feel, and I literally feel like I’ve been reborn,” Cima said.

When she needs a pick-me-up, she turns to social media.

“There’s always inspirational quotes, and usually there’s one that will stick with you for the rest of the day,” Cima said.

And she’s not the only one.

A recent study from the University of South Carolina shows people who use Twitter as part of a mobile weight-loss program are more likely to lose weight than those who don’t.

“You can really find some great people out there that will share a lot of great free information, that could give you the jump start that you need to get to that next level in fitness, or to even start in the fitness world,” Adelus said.

So if you have a fitness goal for the new year, you may not just want to sign up at a gym, but on social media as well.
