Bend sets Central District public workshop

KTVZ

The city of Bend wants to hear from residents, business owners and others on how to create a vibrant future for the Central District. The Central District is described as the area along Northeast Third Street, between Revere and Burnside avenues.

A public workshop is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Bend City Hall, Council Chambers, 710 Northwest Wall Street, in Bend. Children are welcome.

TheBend Central District Multimodal Mixed-Use Area plan will look at ways to improve travel connections by foot, bike, bus, car or freight truck. The plan also considers how to redevelop the area to include a combination of housing, businesses, and other uses. This type of development is called a “Multimodal, Mixed-use Area” or MMA.

The workshop, the project’s second public event, will include a short presentation and a question and answer period. Attendees will receive information about existing and projected future conditions in the area.

Attendees will also meet in small groups with a project staff member to discuss potential boundaries for the Multimodal Mixed-use Area designation and the implications the designation will have for residents and businesses.

Businesses in the area can learn about potential land use designation changes that might affect their property in the future.

The plan is expected to be finished by June 2014.

More information about the project and comment forms will also be available on the project website: www.BendCentralMMA.org.
