Year-end busy time for Goodwill in C. Oregon

These last few weeks of December, you will see a stream of cars lined up at each of Goodwill’s local donation sites. From a rush of donors looking for their last possible tax deduction for 2013, throughout its 15-county service area, Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette expects to collect as much as 5.5 million pounds of donations during just the last seven days of the year.
At the Bend Store 61315 S. Hwy 97, alone, by years end, 3.5 million pounds of donations are expected.
All of Central Oregon is expected to bring in a total of 6.15 million pounds by the end of 2013. (In 2013, this charity expects to collect a worldwide record of more than 187 million pounds of donations throughout our Pacific Northwest territory).
Through funding generated from the sale of donations, this year we will serve well over 52,000 individuals in NW Oregon and SW Washington. Goodwill uses 95-cents of every dollar generated through the re-sale of donations for employment, job placement and vocational training programs for people with barriers to employment. A consumer not: Because our donors, for tax purposes, often give us their most valuable donations this time of year, January and February are tremendous months to shop at your neighborhood Goodwill store.
To get that last tax receipt of 2013, all our seven Goodwill Central Oregon donation sites are open on New Year’s Eve.
With every donation sold, 95 cents on the dollar goes directly to local mission services — helping our struggling neighbors go from tax burden to taxpayer.
