Redmond Proficiency Academy moving in 2015

The Redmond Proficiency Academy and Redmond School District announced Wednesday that the district-sponsored charter school will be transitioning from the Hugh Hartman campus to a new, as-yet unspecified location in the 2015-2016 school year.

RSD, which owns the Hugh Hartman campus facility, will reclaim occupancy and re-purpose the facility for student growth in 2015, when full-day kindergarten becomes an option for all students in the state of Oregon.

“Redmond School District is thankful for its ongoing partnership with RPA,” said Mike McIntosh, RSD Superintendent. “As our district prepares to accommodate kindergarten students for a full day, we are grateful for the opportunity to utilize the Hartman campus as a resource.”

RPA began utilizing the Hugh Hartman facility at the start of the 2012-13 school year, when RPA opened its sixth- through eighth-grade middle school program.

“We have enjoyed our use of the Hugh Hartman building, and we greatly appreciate our partnership with the Redmond School District,” said Jon Bullock, Executive Director of RPA. “Our school will continue to operate in this facility through the 2014-15 school year while we secure another facility.”

RPA, which also occupies four facilities in downtown Redmond, began investigating the possibilities of relocating several months ago when the school became aware of RSD’s potential facility needs.

“We have been aware of the possibility for some time and our board of directors established a facilities work group earlier in the school year,” Bullock said. “We are working with a commercial real estate broker and a charter school facilities consultant who are helping us identify and secure potential facilities for our school.”

RPA signed a new five-year contract with RSD last spring that begins in July of 2014 and continues through June of 2019. RPA plans to share more about its long-term facilities plans once the board assigned work group concludes its current work.

“This is an exciting time for RPA,” Bullock continued. “Explosive growth over the past five years has allowed us to serve nearly 700 students. The opportunity to secure a facility as unique as our school is a tremendous one.”
