Bend Police Citizen’s Academy coming up

KTVZ

The Bend Police Department Citizen’s Academy has received recognition as a national and regional model and continues to be a highly popular program in the Bend community.

The goal of the program is to inform and educate participants about the Bend Police Department and the variety of ways it carries out its mission. Instruction covers such topics as narcotics, K-9’s, Officer Survival, Traffic, SWAT and much more. The classes are taught by various officers chosen according to their specific area of expertise in law enforcement.

When students graduate, they are eligible to become Bend Police Department Volunteers. Volunteers work at assignments such as Abandoned Vehicles, Couriers, Disabled Parking and Special Events.

The Academy has limited space so early signup is recommended. There is no charge for the Academy. The spring 2014 Academy will start on April 2, 2014, with graduation on May 28, 2014. Classes are held each Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Police Department’s briefing room. The Department is located at 555 NE 15 th Street, Bend, Oregon 97701.

Applications are available online, can be picked up at the Bend Police Reception Desk or by contacting Community Liaison Lori Drew at (541) 322-2976, ldrew@bendoregon.gov.
