(Editor’s Note: A judge later dismissed all charges against Stellway and the criminal record has been expunged)

A 20-year-old Bend man was arrested on attempted murder and other charges Saturday evening after a 25-year-old man called police to report his roommate had stabbed him with a pair of scissors, officers said.

Police responded around 6:30 p.m. to a home at 550 SE Reed Market Road on a report of a stabbing said Sgt. John Lawrence.

Daniel Elizondo called Deschutes County 911 dispatchers to report his roommate, later identified as Colton David Stellway, had stabbed him with scissors and he was bleeding as a result, Lawrence said.

Officers soon arrived at the home, found and detained Stellway, while Bend Fire and Rescue medics treated Elizondo at the scene. He was taken to St. Charles Bend for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the sergeant said.

Bend criminal detectives sought and helped execute a search warrant at the home, Lawrence said.

Stellway was taken to the county jail and booked early Sunday on charges of attempted murder, first-degree aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon, tampering with evidence and fourth-degree assault. He remained held Sunday on $370,000 bail.

Lawrence said alcohol was a factor in the assault.

Elizondo posted later to the KTVZ.COM story about the incident, saying he was attacked from behind and “stabbed multiple times in the hands and face.” He also claimed Stellway “had every intention of killing me” and added, “the only reason I am alive is because I train in Brazilian ju jitsu.”
