Bend scissors stabbing victim speaks out

(Editor’s note: A judge later dismissed all charges against Stellway and the criminal record has been expunged)

Attacked with a pair of scissors, Daniel Elizondo says he never saw it coming.

“He came around the counter and attacked me,” Elizondo said Monday. “He got me from behind.”

Elizondo says a comment about his roommate of one month, Colton Stellway, not having a girlfriend may have set him off Saturday evening.

“He hit me in the face with scissors. He wasn’t stopping, he didn’t have a rational moment,” Elizondo said.

Elizondo says Stellway waited until they were alone in their southeast Bend home, then allegedly stabbed him with kitchen scissors several times in the hands, face and stomach.

Stellway was arrested at the home they share on Reed Market Road. He now faces a number of charges, including attempted murder and assault.

“Attempted murder of course is one of the most serious,” Bend police spokesman Lt. Nick Parker said. “The other charges, aggravated assault in the first degree is also very, very serious, so up to many years in prison.”

Neighbors are shocked about what happened right next door.

“Guns drawn at the front of the house, waiting for him to come out, so it was a little different,” neighbor Jacob Meyers said.

Elizondo credits his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training for saving his life.

“He’s a pretty strong kid, and he had a weapon in his hand, so it could have easily been a lot worse for me,” Elizondo said.

Elizondo said he met Stellway through a Craigslist ad for a roommate about a month ago.

Right now, there is a no-contact order between the two of them.

Stellway was released on bail Sunday night. He is due in court on April 25th for his arraignment.
