Prineville man cited in wild Redmond DUII crash
A 61-year-old Prineville man faces DUII, hit-and-run and other charges after his pickup left a path of destruction in and around the Redmond Walgreen’s parking lot Tuesday evening, police said.
Harvey Duncan was cited and released at St. Charles-Redmond, where he underwent treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, said Lt. Keith Knight.
Shortly after 6 p.m., Duncan’s red Dodge pickup was in the drug store’s parking lot when he allegedly backed into a parked Ford Aero van; a man sitting in the van also went to the hospital for treatment, Knight said.
Duncan’s pickup then went over a sidewalk, knocking down a tree, crossed Veterans Way and struck a concrete barrier, then clipped a mailbox before smashing into the crossing guard on the adjacent railroad tracks, where it got stuck partially on the tracks.
Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies were first to reach and take Duncan into custody, Knight said.
Duncan faces charges of DUII, felony hit and run and two counts each of misdemeanor hit and run, reckless driving and criminal mischief.

One lane of Veterans Way was closed for about two hours, and the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway also stopped rail traffic until the incident was cleared. Knight said BNSF crews will have repairs to make, as Duncan’s pickup “hit the crossing guard hard enough to break off one of the counterweights.”
