Youth fishing event planned at Pine Nursery Pond

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will be holding a free youth fishing event at Pine Nursery Pond on Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will be open to anglers 17-years-old and younger. Loaner rods, reels, and tackle will be available, and ODFW staff and volunteers will be on hand to help participants learn how to bait a hook, cast a and land their catch. In addition, the pond will be stocked with rainbow trout prior to the event.

Kids age 13 and under do not need a fishing license but teens 14 to 17 will need a juvenile angling license. All state fishing regulations apply.

Pine Nursery Pond is one of more than 350 water bodies in Oregon that ODFW regularly stocks with trout. Anglers can learn more about how and where to fish throughout Oregon at ODFW’s website, www.dfw.state.or.us under the “Fishing” tab.

The Bend Pine Nursery Community Park is located in NE Bend. From Hwy 97, take Empire Blvd Exit and head East on Empire Blvd 1.5 miles. Turn left on Purcell for 1500 feet and turn right just before Ponderosa Elementary School.
