The U.S. Bank Pole Pedal Paddle isn’t just for the elite competitors. What makes the event special is that everyone can do it.

From male and female, to young and old, Bend’s biggest race has something for everyone.

Competitors from all over came to Bend to take in the different events the PPP has to offer.

“It’s fun mixing up this many different sports into one hodge-podge of athleticism, so it’s a great time,” Hank Lomasney said Saturday afternoon at the post-race party at the Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend’s Old Mill District.

With around 3,000 competitors and plenty of spectators, the race continues to gain popularity every year — even for those who just like to have fun.

“I love it,” Lily Roslund said. “I think it’s a really cool event.”

“It’s gorgeous weather, right?” Loehn Morris said. “It’s pretty so far, and we’ve enjoyed everything.”

From dragons to Masters of the Universe, everyone’s here.

“We’re competitive, and there’s not that many races around that allow superheroes and mythical creatures,” Lomasney said.

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, but everyone has their favorite part.

“I like when I finish my event, and I see my teammates cheering,” Allie Morgan said. “Get some really good high fives in.”

Do those costumes come with superpowers?

“I don’t really have any powers. except dehydration,” Lomasney said. “That’s the only power that I practice consistently.”

One married couple competed as partners for the second straight year. Next year they may entertain the idea of going solo.

“Maybe some year we’ll do it as individuals,” Marry Carroll said.

“No,” Pete Erickson said.

Okay, maybe not. Regardless of who you are, there was no question you had a good time.
