ODOT summer road construction map online

KTVZ

Summer means construction season, and work will soon be in full swing throughout the state. Many projects are either scheduled or under way on Oregon highways this year.

To help you know where road work is happening, the Oregon Department of Transportation produced a summer construction map that shows project locations. The map provides information about individual projects with their anticipated delays and also offers safety tips for driving through work zones.

Beginning this week, the map will be available at ODOT offices, DMV offices, truck stops and many travel information centers. You can also view the map online at www.oregon.gov/ODOT.

Keeping people, goods and services moving efficiently and safely is a top priority for the state of Oregon. ODOT is doing much of the work at night or at times when there are lower traffic volumes in order to interfere as little as possible with traffic movement. But remember, as a driver, bicyclist or pedestrian, you should be prepared at all times for work zones, occasional delays and potential alternate routes.

Be safe as you travel Oregon’s highways. The most important thing you can do is to pay complete attention to the task of driving, especially in the transition zone before the work area. Inattentive drivers are the most common cause of work zone crashes.

Remember to slow down when you see orange signs, barrels and barricades. Speeding is the second most common cause of work zone crashes. Please be patient. There are better roads ahead!

Remember to use TripCheck.com or call 511 before your trip to check routes, work zones and road and weather conditions — know before you go!
