Bend-La Pine Schools set Summer Lunch-Learn Program

The Bend-La Pine Schools Summer Meals and Summer Reading program kicks off on Monday, June 16 in the Bend area and Monday, June 23 in La Pine. The program serves hundreds of local students healthy, tasty meals each weekday at 12 locations.

The free lunch program, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, expects to serve more than 45,000 nutritious meals to children during summer vacation.

The summer meals program will take place in Bend, Monday through Friday, from June 16-August 22 (closed July 4) at the following locations and times:

Al Moody Park
2225 NE Daggett Lane, near Ensworth Elementary School
11:15am – 12:15pm

Bear Creek Elementary School
51 SE 13th Street
11:00am – noon

Boys & Girls Club – Ariel (Breakfast only)
1700 SE Tempest Drive

The summer meals program will take place in La Pine, Monday through Friday, from June 23-August 22 (closed July 4) at the following locations and times:

Finley Butte Park
Finley Butte Road and Walling Lane
11:45am – 12:30pm

La Pine Community Center
16405 1st Street (Breakfast from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m.)
The Community Center will be closed from June 30 to July 11, lunch will not be available

All children, ages 18 and younger, are welcome to receive a lunch at no cost. Lunches include a sandwich or hot entre, fruit, vegetable, low fat milk, and an occasional dessert. Parents may purchase a meal of their own for $3. Registration is not needed to participate.

Students are also encouraged to take part in the “Lunch and Learn” summer reading program during lunchtime at Al Moody Park, Bear Creek Elementary, Orchard Park, Pilot Butte Neighborhood Park, and at Finley Butte Park.

The “Lunch and Learn” program will take place from June 23 through August 1, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Students can earn books and other incentives by simply reading throughout the summer and participating in the program.
