Fire destroys vacant home in La Pine
Authorities said they are looking for the cause of a fire early Saturday morning that destroyed an unoccupied double-wide manufactured home in La Pine.
La Pine Rural Fire District crews responded shortly before 3 a.m. to a reported smoke investigation in the area of Deedon Road and Rainbow Drive, said Capt. Gary Young.
Before they arrived in the area, a Deschutes County sheriff’s deputy found a home engulfed in flames at 52730 Rainbow Drive. Young said there were no cars in the driveway, and neighbors said the home had been vacant for some time.
The first fire crew arrived to find a 1,500-square-foot, single-story manufactured home fully involved and the fire spreading to nearby trees, Young said. The engine crew put out the wildfire and was able to keep the blaze from spreading to a detached outbuilding, but the home was a complete loss.
The fire occurred in a neighborhood without fire hydrants, so firefighters had to shuttle water to the scene in tenders, Young said.
Also, fire crews were responding to an injury car crash at Wickiup Reservoir at the same time, which “presented combined challenges,” Young said in a news release. La Pine was assisted by a mutual-aid engine from the Sunriver Fire Department.
No injuries were reported, and Young said the La Pine Fire District’s policy is not to issue damage estimates.
Deschutes County property tax records indicate the 1982 manufactured home is owned by Gary and Barbara Roberson.
