Hundreds ‘Dash for Dads’ on Father’s Day

On Father’s Day, Bend Urology hosted an event in Bend to celebrate dads while raising awareness for prostate cancer.

The second annual “Dash for Dads” run was a 5k run and 1k walk around Pine Nursery Park in Bend. Those in attendance got a chance to run for their fathers and grandfathers while honoring those who have battled the prostate cancer.

Bend Urology staff members shared with us the importance of early detection of prostate cancer, and also what fatherhood means to them.

“This is important to me,” said Lyndsey Holub, community outreach manager. “I have a dad, and I have to make sure he’s taken care of. Prostate cancer doesn’t only affect men, it affects entire families.”

“It’s just great to be a father, and be part of a family,” said urologist Ron Barrett. “This is a great event where families come together with their fathers, and enjoy a good day together.”

“Happy Father’s Day Dad — I love you!” Holub added.

NewsChannel 21 Sports Director Ryan Wing served as master of ceremonies for the event, at which about 200 people registered for the run.

There also was an ugly tie competition and some Deschutes Brewery beer to enjoy after the race.
