Pet safety crucial as holiday fireworks light

KTVZ

The July 4 th holiday weekend is a highlight of summer, but it can be dangerous for pets.

You are your pet’s guardian, voice and protector. Please keep in mind these tips to keep your pets safe:

Do not take pets to public fireworks displays. Keep pets indoors to prevent them from running off if they are frightened by hearing fireworks. If your pet is extremely afraid of fireworks noises, consult your veterinarian about possible medications to get through the holiday. Be sure that your pet is wearing a collar and tags in case he gets away. Getting your pet microchipped before the holiday is a good idea. If you lose your pet, please call the Central Oregon shelters below to file a missing pet report or to claim your pet if he has been turned in: BrightSide Animal Center, Redmond: 541-923-0882 (closed July 4) Humane Society of Central Oregon, Bend: 541-382-3537 (closed July 4) Humane Society of the Ochocos, Prineville: 541-447-7178 (open July 4) Three Rivers Humane Society, Madras: 541-475-6889 (open July 4)
