Japanese exchange student host families sought

KTVZ

Your local Extension Office and 4-H program has an exciting program open to families in Oregon.

Experience Japan without leaving home! Japanese delegates are coming in three weeks to experience life in Oregon!

We are looking for a few more host families! You don’t need to do anything special except include them as a member of your family, provide them with their own bed and three meals a day.

The students that come want to see how we, as Americans live our daily lives. If your child is involved in a camp during this time period, such as tennis camp, boy scout camp, girl scout camp, etc. with pre-approval the program will pay for the Japanese student to join your child at camp.

The Japanese students will be here from July 21 until August 17. Host siblings need to be the same gender and within 2 years of age.

At this time we are looking for one family to host a boy that is 14. He likes sports, especially baseball and soccer. We have three girls, aged 16. The first one likes to listen to music, shopping, running, swimming and cooking. The 2nd one likes: photography, learning about different cultures and making new friends. She is allergic to cats, but as long as they are outside she is OK.

The 3rd girl wants to learn about different cultures, learn about our local history, watching movies, listening to music. She also is allergic to cats but is OK if the cat is an outside cat.

The students will arrive and depart in Redmond, so you don’t need to go to Portland or elsewhere to pick them up. There is also a local coordinator that is available anytime the students are here if you have any questions or concerns during their visit.

For more information contact your local 4-H office, Deschutes county 541-548-6088 or Crook County at 541-447-6228 or Sue Williams at 541-447-3710 or bruceandsuewilliams@gmail.com.

If you would like your family to experience a different culture without leaving the comfort of your own home, give me a call.
