It’s all downhill: Busy Bachelor summer set
Mt. Bachelor will open for the 2014 summer season this Friday, July 4th — and while there’s no longer enough snow to ski or snowboard on, the first full season of the new mountain bike park could mean the busiest “off-season” in resort history.
Here’s the details as laid out in Mt. Bachelor’s summer-season news release:
Attractions on opening day will include the popular Sunset Dinners fine dining experience, scenic chairlift rides, disc golf, hiking, summer sled dog rides and the Gravity Sports retail shop.
Pending sufficient snow-melt, the new Downhill Bike Park is scheduled to open one week later on Friday, July 11.
Daily operations for the summer season will end on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, but scenic chairlift rides and downhill mountain biking will continue on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in September and early October (weather and conditions permitting).
Central Oregon’s most unique dining experience returns to Mt. Bachelor this summer with Sunset Dinners, offered at the mid-mountain Pine Marten Lodge on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. New this summer is The Cirque Grill and Bar at Pine Marten Lodge, featuring 20 local craft beers on tap. Daytime visitors can enjoy lunch, snacks and beverages while viewing the Cascade lakes and volcanoes from the 7,800 ft. elevation. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, guests who seek a more casual experience can dine on a variety of entrees, including lighter options. Reservations are not necessary at The Cirque.
Chairlift ride tickets will be available at the same rates as the previous summer: $17 for adults and teens, $14 for seniors and $11 for youth. Discounted Twilight tickets will be available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings for those who plan to dine at Pine Marten Lodge. A Chairlift Ride Season Pass can be purchased for $49.
Pending sufficient snow-melt, Mt. Bachelor is planning to launch its first full season of downhill mountain biking on Friday, July 11. Three top-to-bottom routes are complete, served by the Pine Marten chairlift.
Construction of new trails will continue throughout the summer, with new trail sections opening as work is finished.
Bike Park tickets will range from $19 for Twilight sessions on Fridays and Saturdays to $34 for a full day ticket. A “4-Pack” pass is $99, valid for any four days of riding. Bike Park tickets and 4-Pack passes are now available for sale online; a 15% discount is offered on single and multi-day tickets purchased online at least four days in advance.
Gravity Sports has a brand new fleet of 100 Norco rental bikes in a variety of styles and sizes. Helmets, pads and body armor can be rented or purchased and a full-service tune and repair shop will be open daily.
Gravity School instruction will be offered throughout the summer with Intro To Ride packages and private bike lessons available. Limited space remains in Mt. Bachelor’s youth bike camps, offered in weekly sessions starting July 21.
