Cow Creek Umpqua Foundation aids C.O. charities

Nonprofits serving Deschutes County have received an extra boost, thanks to the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation.

The Foundation awarded over $371,000 across Oregon, including $61,000 to nine nonprofits in Central Oregon with a focus on food, safety, and shelter:

Bethlehem Inn: $10,000

Mountain Star Relief Nursery: $6,000

Central Oregon Disability Support: $5,000

Jericho Road: $5,000

KIDS Center: $5,000

Trinity Episcopal Family Kitchen: $5,000

Assistance League of Bend: $5,000

Members representing the nine organizations attended an awards ceremony at the Seven Feathers Convention Center in Canyonville last week.

“Central Oregon nonprofits have been recipients of these grants since 2006 and we’ve greatly benefited from the generosity of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation,” said Gwenn Wysling, executive director of Bethlehem Inn. “Our goal is to use these funds to meet the basic needs of youth in our community.”

The mission of CCUIF is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthen youth and family, provide positive youth development, and improve quality of life. CCUIF has put increasing emphasis upon funding basic needs so more hungry people have food. Since 1997, the foundation has awarded $13,793,659 in grants to nonprofit organizations in Oregon.

There were a total of 58 grantees across the state: Douglas County, $86,000; Lane County, $85,100; Deschutes County, $61,000; Jackson County, $54,900; Josephine County, $48,000; Coos County, $18,500; one grantee from Klamath County, $5,000; and an additional $13,000 will be awarded to three grants that serve multiple counties.
