New art exhibition at Deschutes Co. building
Deschutes County is pleased to present “Bend’s Illuminations, through the Eyes of Our Children.” The hanging wall pieces, using multiple forms of recycled materials, are on display now through October at the Deschutes County Services Building, 1300 NW Wall St. in Bend, on the second floor.
Touching and imaginative, the unusual and enchanting collection draws the viewer into each piece – immediately.
The large, heavy art pieces highlight each child’s life experience, and are the collaborative efforts of 40 young artists who are consumers of children’s services in our community. Each child has faced challenges in their lives such as mental and emotional trauma, or physical illness.
This display is a must-see art exhibit-see the world through a young person’s eyes. Each work adds light and life to 10 strategic themes for a ‘Well-Planned City’, from the Bend 2030 Vision Plan.
Can you find the Ferris wheel and the bridge going every-which-way, lollipop trees, a phoenix, skateboard ramps, oil pipeline, a river with fish of ‘green ribbon’ representing children’s mental health awareness? And, look for a Koi pond park in the center of a roundabout! There is much more to see and interpret.
