Harmony4Women receives grant
Harmony4Women, the local Women’s Acappella Benefit Community Chorus, has just received a $5,000 grant from Trust Management Services, LLC, of Waldport, OR.
The community chorus opens its arms to women who love to sing, and want to be a part of this valuable experience in acappella harmony, music education, and community.
The first such community chorus was established in 2009, to “Sing for our Sisters,” and the first few performances were held at high schools in the community.
Last year the performances were moved to the Tower Theatre, in Bend and this grant will be used to fund that venue and the practice venue at the Bend Senior Center. The Chorus was recipient of a smaller Trust Management Services Grant in 2012.
“We are so grateful to Trust Management Services, LLC, for their trust in our acappella project and the work of our four organizations”, says Linda Gardner, Harmony4Women Leadership Team Chair. “This grant will allow us to do our work without the burden of worrying about paying our largest expenses, the venues.”
Trust Management Services, LLC (TMS) works with and assists charitable organizations in making sound funding decisions and maximizing responsible giving in Oregon. They award non-profit grants in Oregon, by region annually, or bi-annually. Their primary funding goes to Education, Community Service, Cultural Endeavors, Youth Activities and Historical Preservation. Harmony4Women fits their criteria on three levels.
Teen and adult singers from the tri-county area are welcome to join in the chorus, without audition. The purposees of the Harmony4Women chorus are to share the joy and understanding of music through 8 weeks of practicing, to establish a community of women across the tri-county area, and to raise funds through the performance and auctions for the four women’s non-profit organizations offering this experience.
Harmony4Women singer reservations will be open on the 15th of August, with the annual Singer Sign-up party on Sept. 18, RSVP at trixytazzy@live.com. Rehearsals begin Sept. 23, 2014, for performances on November 22. Organizations providing leadership for the Harmony4Women Community Benefit Chorus are Bella Acappella Harmony Chorus, the mentoring chorus, AAUW Bend Branch, Soroptimist International of Bend, and Grandma’s House of Central Oregon. The Bend Soroptimist Service Foundation is the fiscal sponsor of the group. Each of these organizations furthers education for women and girls.
