Two people were injured, one seriously, Saturday when their motorcycle left state Hwy. 242 (the McKenzie Highway) and crashed about 14 miles east of the Hwy. 126 junction, Oregon State Police reported.

Around 12:10 p.m., passing motorists reported coming across the scene of the motorcycle crash near milepost 71, troopers said.

A Harley-Davidson motorcycle crashed off the road near a tree, seriously injuring the operator, Gerald R. Donaldson, 70, of Box Elder, South Dakota, and causing minor injuries to the passenger, Judy Donaldson, also 70.

Citizens who stopped at the scene provided initial care until medics arrived, troopers said, adding that both riders were wearing helmets.

Gerald Donaldson was taken by ambulance to a secondary location, where a Life Flight helicopter was standing by and flew him to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. Judy Donaldson was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.

OSP said it was continuing to investigate the manner and cause of the crash. Troopers were aided at the scene by McKenzie Fire & Rescue, Springfield EMS and Life Flight.
