Fire danger forces outdoor concert to move

KTVZ

The Deschutes National Forest said Friday it has canceled the event called “Wedding in the Woods” that organizers planned near Cultus Lake Resort due to extreme fire danger in the area and ongoing public use restrictions.

The concert organizer found a new venue to hold it, officials said later.

Forest officials said they were just made aware of the un-permitted event Friday “and believe that allowing the event to occur in that location would pose a public safety issue for both people attending the event and other visitors to the area.”

Wedding in the Woods is an outdoor concert event that event organizers planned to hold a short distance from Cultus Lake Resort.

This concert was planned near the general area as the Muskrat Fire, which just two weeks ago caused evacuations and threatened Cultus Lake Resort and Cultus Lake Campground.

In addition, there are public use Restrictions on the Deschutes National Forest that do not allow for the use of generators and campfires outside of designated campgrounds.

The Wedding in the Woods event has been moved to the Workhouse (near Sparrow Bakery), 50 SE Scott Street, in Bend, starting at 7 p.m.

“We are pleased the organizers could find a new venue and appreciate their understanding and respect for the fire conditions on the Deschutes National Forest,” the agency said.
