Bend PD offer back-to-school safety reminders

KTVZ

The Bend Police Department would like to remind all citizens that school starts back up on September 3rd. We are asking drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians be extra cautious around schools during commutes.

Safety reminders include:

The speed limit in school zones is 20 mph.
Pedestrians should always use designated crosswalks.
Bicyclists should wear protective gear, reflective clothing, and follow roadway laws.
State law requires a person to obey the direction of a school crossing guard.
Avoid using mobile devices while operating a vehicle.
Motorists may not pass a school bus that is operating its flashing red lights and/ or has a stop sign displayed.
Anticipate traffic congestion around schools and allow for additional travel time.
Anticipate heavy police presence around these areas conducting traffic enforcement.

Let’s work together to keep our children safe.
