Store video leads to Bend burglary, theft arrest
A Bend sporting goods store’s surveillance video helped police identify and arrest a suspect in last week’s theft of a purse from a car parked in the garage of a northwest Bend home, police said Thursday.
The purse was taken some time between 8 p.m. last Thursday and 8 a.m. Saturday from a woman’s Jeep parked in an attached garage of a home on NW Celilo Lane, said Sgt. Jason Maniscalco. The garage door was open at the time and the Jeep was unlocked, he noted.
The victim soon learned that the thief had made several fraudulent purchases with her credit card, including one at Big 5 Sporting Goods.
Police reviewed the surveillance video at the store and identified the suspect as Joseph Patrick Therrien, 30, of Bend, Maniscalco said.
Bend police officers and detectives served a search warrant Monday at Therrien’s apartment on NE Purcell Boulevard and found evidence of the crimes, the sergeant said.
Therrien was at home during the raid and was arrested and booked into the Deschutes County Jail. He remained held Thursday on $50,000 bail, facing charges of first-degree burglary, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, second-degree theft, four counts of identity theft, four counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and methamphetamine possession, jail records showed.
