NE Bend burglary suspect caught; 2nd sought

A northeast Bend woman arrived home one afternoon to find two people running out the back door of her home, carrying stolen items, leading to the arrest of a transient and recovery of some items taken from that home and another residence, police said Thursday. The second suspect has not been identified.

A resident of a house on NE Watson Drive arrived home last Saturday around 3:30 p.m. and saw two men running out her back door with items taken from inside, said Sgt. Jason Maniscalco.

Police soon developed information at one suspect might be at an apartment on NE Purcell Boulevard, Maniscalco said.

Officers found Nicholas Loran Husted, 23 at the apartment, in possession of items stolen at the Watson Drive home, the sergeant said.

Officers and detectives also found items with Husted from an unreported burglary at a home on Royal Oak Circle, also in northeast Bend, Maniscalco said.

Husted was booked into the Deschutes County Jail early Sunday on two counts each of first-degree burglary and theft, as well as aggravated theft and second-degree theft. He remained there Thursday, held on $50,000 bail.

Police ask anyone with information related to the case to contact them at 541-693-6911.

Husted made the news back in late February when shoe prints in the snow in the back yard of two homes led to his arrest on criminal trespass charges at a small transient camp on a lot on NE Watt Way. He had two outstanding arrest warrants at the time.
