A 28-year-old Bend woman was arrested Tuesday on assault and criminal mistreatment charges involving a 21-month-old baby who suffered several injuries while in her care over a month ago.
Sarah Marie Hendriks was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail on charges of first-degree assault and two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, with bail set at $100,000.
Bend police were dispatched to St. Charles Bend just after noon on July 24 th on a report of a 21-month-old Bend girl who had been brought into the ER with several injuries, according to Lt. Nick Parker, who declined to provide additional details.
An ensuing investigation determined the little girl “suffered multiple injuries that were non-accidental,” Parker said.
Hendriks was identified as the caretaker for the child at the time, and after the injuries, she “failed to provide medical attention to the child,” Parker said.
The case was presented to a grand jury, which indicted Hendriks, leading to her arrest.
