Beaverton homicide case extends to Bend

KTVZ

Reports of gunshots early Wednesday brought police to a Beaverton apartment complex, where they found a man’s body — and later in the day, Bend police stopped and held two people for questioning in the homicide case.

Beaverton police said they responded to a report at the Birch Point Apartments on NW Cornell Road that several gunshots were heard by residents around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said searched the apartment complex and located the body of a man later identified as outside of the apartments.

The Beaverton Police Department, assisted by the Washington County Major Crimes Team, identified the victim Thursday as 24-year-old Amjad Ahmed Alkofi, a resident of the unincorporated county and not a current resident of the Birch Point Apartments.

Beaverton detectives “interviewed two subjects with knowledge last night in Bend, Oregon along with multiple other subjects locally,” officers said, declining to divulge details.

However, they also said “investigative progress has been made and we believe there is no further danger to the public associated with this case.”

Bend police said they could not discuss scanner reports shortly before 7 p.m. that two people wanted for questioning about the Beaverton homicide were stopped shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday in a black GMC Yukon Denali on Hawkview Road, located behind St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, east of 27th Street and west of Eagle Road.

Beaverton police said the investigation is ongoing, and they will release more details as available on their Facebook page, Flash Alert, Twitter, and the Beaverton Police Website.
