Two out-of-area physician executives have joined St. Charles Health System’s board of directors.

Dr. Steven Gordon is system vice president of care transformation for PeaceHealth in Vancouver, Wash., where he has worked since 2007. His primary responsibility is to lead initiatives aimed at improving care for individuals and populations through models supported by technology, patient engagement, timely information flow and clinical decision support.

Prior to joining PeaceHealth, Gordon worked for Providence Health and Services for 11 years, where he was a faculty physician and later medical director of quality. He was also the founder and chief medical officer of Greenfield Health, and has practiced medicine independently. He currently serves on the state of Oregon’s Hospital Transformation Performance Pool Metrics Committee, the American Hospital Association Region 9 Policy Board, and the Oregon Association of Hospital and Health Systems’ Board of Trustees and Quality Committee.

Gordon received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, his Master of Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and his MD from Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Hartwell Lin is medical director of the emergency department at John Muir Medical Center in Concord, Calif., where he has worked since 1998. He is responsible for physician group operations for the 32-bed emergency department, which has an annual census of 52,000 patients. Lin also serves on the medical center’s Physician Strategic Council, which is tasked with strategic initiatives related to physician resources and clinical integration, and is a past medical staff president.

Lin received his Bachelor of Science in biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and his MD from Albany Medical College. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Alameda Contra Costa County Medical Association and is a tactical physician for the Concord Police Department SWAT team and Central Contra Costa County joint SWAT team.

“Both physicians bring valuable perspectives and expertise to our health system,” said Tom Sayeg, chairman of the board. “We look forward to the contributions they will make toward helping the health system achieve its vision of creating America’s healthiest community, together.”
