Puppy stolen from Portland animal shelter
The Oregon Humane Society said Friday it is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the “brazen theft” of a puppy from the Portland shelter on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2-month-old puppy was stolen between 3 pm and 6 pm, just one day after being offered for adoption at the OHS shelter located at 1067 NE Columbia Blvd.
The puppy, a female Australian shepherd/pit bull mix, was stolen from a locked kennel located off the shelter lobby. A potential adopter was waiting to see the puppy when the theft was discovered.
“It breaks our heart to see something like this happen. This was a very determined thief and we are asking the public for any information that could lead to the recovery of Marlowe and the prosecution of the criminal or criminals involved,” said OHS Executive Director Sharon Harmon.
The puppy was stolen from a kennel that was protected by a padlock on the side viewed by the public and by an electronic card lock on the side accessed by staff and volunteers.
“We take our responsibility to the animals in our care very seriously and are pursuing all available avenues to recover Marlowe,” said Harmon.
Anyone who has seen the puppy or has information about the theft is urged to call the OHS tip line at (503) 285-7722, ext. 214.
The female puppy weighs seven pounds and is a brown/brindle color with a white nose and a distinctive white blaze in the center of its forehead. The puppy is described as energetic, playful and affectionate.
